Privacy and trust

Your story belongs to you.

A life story is the most personal thing a person can hand over. This page says exactly what happens to it - in plain language, with nothing important left in a footnote.

Who owns what you tell us and upload

You do. Your transcripts, the chapters written from them, any recordings saved before this change took effect, and every photograph, document, video and audio file you upload remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them and we never will.

What we take is narrow and functional: permission to store your content, process it in order to run the service you asked for - transcribe your speech, suggest follow-up questions, assemble your chapters, build your book - and show it to the people you choose to share it with. That is the whole of it. We do not license your stories to anyone, sell them, publish them, or use them in our own marketing without asking you first and separately.

Whether your stories are used to train AI models

Not by us. We do not train models on your spoken answers, transcripts, chapters, recordings, photographs or videos, and we do not sell or license your content to anyone. The companies listed below receive your content only to do a specific job for us, such as turning speech into text, suggesting questions or reading Rosie’s lines aloud. Each handles what it receives under its own terms. We tell Deepgram not to use your audio to improve its models. When your browser turns your speech into text itself, that happens between you and the browser’s maker, and we receive only the text.

We have written our part into section 13 of our terms of service as a binding undertaking, including this: if we learn that a company we use may train its models on the content we send it, and we cannot switch that off, we stop sending it your content and change provider if that is what it takes.

We would rather promise it that way round. Any company can tell you what its suppliers currently permit; that is a fact about today which can change without anybody telling you. A term of the agreement is a thing you can hold us to.

Here is precisely what leaves our systems, and to whom, so that this is checkable rather than a promise:

Third-party services that process MyLifeMemoir content
ServiceWhat it receivesWhy
SupabaseEverything: your account, your transcripts and chapters, your photographs, documents and videos, and any recordings saved before this change took effect. On some devices, what you say is also uploaded here as a temporary file so it can be transcribed. That file is normally deleted as soon as it has been read, but if your browser closes between the upload and the transcription, it can remain in storage. It is where your memoir is stored. Database and file storage.
DeepgramThe audio of what you say, on iPhones and iPads, in Firefox, and in other browsers without built-in speech recognition, plus a short clip when you check how a name is heard. Your memoir’s names go with it as spelling hints. We tell Deepgram not to use the audio to improve its models.Turning what you said into text.
Your browser’s speech serviceIn Chrome and Edge, and other browsers with built-in speech recognition, what you say is turned into text by the browser itself. In Chrome and Edge that service is run by Google and Microsoft, on their own servers, under their own terms. MyLifeMemoir receives only the text.Turning what you said into text.
Anthropic (Claude)The text of the answer you just gave, and the full text of a chapter when it is being written up.Suggesting the follow-up questions Rosie offers, and shaping answers into readable chapters.
ElevenLabsThe words Rosie says out loud - her questions and her guidance. Never your answers. But see the note below this table: her follow-up questions are built from what you said, so one can quote a few of your words back.Giving Rosie a voice.
StripeYour name, email and payment details. No memoir content of any kind.Taking payment. Card numbers go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
CloudflareOrdinary web request data - the pages you load, your IP address.Serving the website and blocking automated abuse.

One honest wrinkle about Rosie’s voice. Rosie’s follow-up questions are built from your answer, which is the whole point of her - so a question like “you mentioned your father rarely talked about the war; do you remember the first time he did?” contains a few of your own words. When she reads that aloud, those words go to the voice service along with the rest of the question. Your answer itself is never sent there. We mention it because “only Rosie’s words” would have been a tidier sentence than a true one.

What happens to what you say. Your spoken answers are turned into text, and the text is what your memoir keeps. Your answers are not saved as recordings you can play back. To turn speech into text, the audio goes either to your browser’s own speech service or to Deepgram (see the table). When it goes to Deepgram, it is first uploaded to a temporary file in our storage. That file is normally deleted as soon as it has been read; if your browser closes between the upload and the transcription, it can remain in storage. If your words cannot be written down, the app tells you and offers to try again. Until then that speech is held only on the page in your browser, so refreshing or closing the page, or a crash, loses it. Where your browser allows, the app warns you before a refresh or close.

Recordings saved before this change took effect (October 25, 2026). Earlier versions of MyLifeMemoir could keep a recording of each answer. If you have any, they are still stored and they are still yours. They no longer play in the app, and they are included when you use “Download everything.”

How your memoir is stored

Your memoir lives in a database and file store operated by Supabase on infrastructure in the United States. Everything moves over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and it is encrypted at rest by the storage provider.

Access is enforced at the database itself, not merely in the app: every row of your memoir carries your account, and the database refuses to return another account’s rows even if something in the application asked it to. Uploaded files are served through short-lived signed links rather than public URLs, so a photograph’s address cannot be passed around or found by a search engine.

A small number of our staff can reach account data when it is genuinely needed - to fix a fault, recover something you have lost, or answer a support request. We do not read memoirs for any other reason.

Who can see your memoir

Nobody, until you decide otherwise. A new memoir is visible to your account alone. Nothing is public, nothing is discoverable, and there is no directory of storytellers.

When you do share, you have two separate tools and both are under your control:

  • A sharing link. Anyone with the link can read your finished stories and watch any story videos you included, without an account. The link contains an unguessable token, but it is not limited to the people you send it to: anyone who has it can open it, so treat it as you would a house key. You can switch it off, and the moment you do, it stops working. Switching it off cannot recall copies someone has already downloaded or saved.
  • An invitation to contribute. Family and friends can add their own photographs and memories. Nothing they send appears in your memoir until you have read it and approved it.

These links are excluded from search engines, and the pages behind them tell crawlers not to index them - but the real protection is the token, not the robots file.

Taking your memoir with you

You can get your material out, at any time, without asking us:

  • Everything, in one download. “Download everything” on your Membership page gives you a single file holding your book as a PDF, every story in your own words, every photograph, document and video, and any voice recordings saved before this change took effect. It opens on any computer without MyLifeMemoir.
  • Your book, as a PDF. Build and download it on its own as often as you like - chapters, photographs and all. It is an ordinary, widely used file format, easy to copy and keep in more than one place.
  • Single uploads. Any photograph, document or video can also be downloaded from your library in the form you uploaded it.

If a download ever fails, write to us at info@seniorcareres.com and we will send you a copy.

What deletion means

It means deletion. Ask us to delete your memoir and the stories, transcripts, recordings, photographs and documents are permanently removed from our systems - not hidden, not flagged, not moved to an archive we keep quietly.

The same applies if you stop being a member. We do not retain data for cancelled or expired accounts. Before that happens you get three emails - a week before your trial ends, the day before, and a week after - so nothing is ever deleted without warning, and there is always time to download everything you want to keep.

Backups are the one honest exception: deleted content can persist in encrypted operational backups for a short period before those rotate out. It is not accessible through the product and it is not used for anything.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your stories or your account information.
  • We do not use your stories to train AI models.
  • We do not put advertising in your memoir or sell access to your family.
  • We do not make your memoir public, or use your name or story in our marketing, unless you have specifically agreed to it.
  • We do not hold your content hostage to make you renew.

Children

MyLifeMemoir is for adults. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. Grandchildren often appear in a memoir, of course - that is rather the point - and a family member of any age can tell a story with the account holder’s involvement.

Analytics and advertising measurement

On our public website, and on the page where you create an account, we use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel to understand how people find MyLifeMemoir and whether our advertising works. They record which pages are visited, which buttons and links are clicked, and a few named steps, such as finishing the free practice question or creating an account.

They are not used on the pages where you tell, read or share your memoir, and they never receive anything you say or write, your name, or your email address. Google and Meta set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and handle this information under their own privacy policies, and Meta may use it to measure and show advertising. You can block them with your browser’s privacy settings or a content blocker; MyLifeMemoir works the same either way.

None of this changes our commitment. We never train AI on your stories, and we never sell them.

Questions, or a request

Write to info@seniorcareres.com and a person will answer. If you want your data exported or deleted, say so plainly and we will do it - you do not have to explain why, and we will not try to talk you out of it.
